In 1985, Richard Dick Carrier Sr. launched Incline Club, an apparel brand that reflected his love of skiing. He’d moved to Vail, CO, after graduating from Ithaca College in NY to ski and bartend, and one thing led to another. He would marry a world class downhill racer, and they would have three super-athletic kids together before an amicable parting of ways. Carrier founded promotional marketing agency E3 Axess in Chicago, working with Pepsi, HTC, Soldier Field and more. He created the Luxury Tailgate Experience, which ESPN named “The Best Tailgate Experience in America.”
All of this was prelude to the 2016 launch of DICK CARRIERS, an underwear brand boasting the tagline, “Respect Your Package.” I met Richard at the MAGIC fashion tradeshow in Las Vegas in February, and knew immediately I wanted him on the YES, BRAND podcast.
As you listen to our conversation, you’ll not only gain insight into how “DC” was born, you’ll garner wisdom from a true brand architect, whose vision for a venture is always long sighted and deeply personal. For example, to Carrier, “Respect Your Package” extends well beyond its reference to briefs, and embodies the care that goes into crafting a product, the dignity inherent in a family business – which DICK CARRIERS is – and why this package is earning the respect of women as well as men.
