Dan and Hersh cover it all on this episode of YES, BRAND!
It’s rare to have a successful career in documentary television. Rarer still is to enjoy a second successful career, making the leap from the doc world to the branded world. Meet two-time Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Dan Klein, Partner/Executive Producer of ADDigital Productions, and my guest on this week on the YES, BRAND podcast.
At a time when journalists and the free press are threatened, when consumers have good reason to cast a dubious eye on corporations, it seemed a good idea to tap into Dan’s unique perspective. Oh, and it’s always a good idea to engage in some ballbusting so as not to take the world, or ourselves, too seriously.
A Brown University alum, Dan has taught in NYU’s graduate program in Broadcast Journalism. He started his career as a production assistant at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games (and later worked on the ‘92 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona). He’s produced shows with legendary journalists Walter Cronkite and Bill Moyers. A series of feature segments for ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” won him his first Emmy. He was the executive producer of Wonderland Productions, which produced specials, series, digital projects, promos and commercials for clients like HBO, ESPN, BET, PBS, Unilever and Arm & Hammer. In 2009, Dan won his second Emmy Award for the documentary, “Miracle in New York.”
I met Dan when he formed ADDigital with partner (and previous YES, BRAND guest), Tom Mooney, in 2009 (I was talking with Tom outside their NYC office when he dragged me into a Web spot for ESPN). Highlights have included: a film about veterans narrated by Tom Hanks and broadcast from the 2012 Democratic National Convention; two image campaigns for the USGA broadcast nationally; films for the auction house, Sotheby's; spots for clients like Saatchi, BBDO, Havas, General Mills, ESPN and HBO; and ongoing campaigns for Porsche, ACE Hardware, the NRDC, the Sierra Club, and the League of Women Voters.
Please welcome Dan Klein to this episode of YES, BRAND!
