He’s been on with Stephen Colbert, Mike Rowe and others, but today…he’s on the YES, BRAND Podcast.
My interview with Carl Blake of Rustik Rooster Farms in Eldon, MO, is really more about good old-fashioned American entrepreneurship than pork, but both topics figure prominently in our conversation. Growing up as an Orthodox Jewish kid, I have always had a complicated relationship with pork. Over the years, the tension has eased…somewhat. But, if you really want to be one with pork, you have to talk to “Little Pig Man,” as Carl is known.
When Carl and I spoke last week, he was preparing to unveil the prototype of his new American Firepit…the ONLY way to make a fire! (That’s my tagline, not his, lol) The only way to get this job done right, it turns out, is to turn to the Mennonites. We talked about more than Mennon, however – we talked family, industry, and the work ethic that drives Carl to ignore the improbable and make everything possible – right here in the USA. In the latter half of the interview, we get into our country’s identity crisis, how removed we are from the country we strive to be, and try to figure out what the hell is going on.
Also check out Carl's American Hot Box, in which you can roast a pig in 4 hours!
